Doris DeVault

Doris DeVault, 96, left for Heaven's glory on Saturday, November 23, 2013. Born on June 10, 1917, to Bess and Robert Martin DeVault, Doris lived a fulfilling life as a single adult in service to her Lord Jesus.

She was preceded in death by twin Dorothy Milligan and brothers Edwin, Leonard, and Robert Moulton DeVault.

Doris is survived by Edwin's wife, Jeanette, and Robert's wife, Betty. She was a devoted aunt to nine nieces and nephews and their families, and was also "twin Mother" to Dorothy's children, Thomas, Doris Lynn, and Robert.

Doris graduated from Watauga Academy in Butler, TN, and attended Carson-Newman College for two years. She was a graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, and earned a master's degree in religious education from WMU Training School in Louisville, KY (now under Southern Seminary).

Miss DeVault taught missions education for Baptists in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Alabama before moving to Birmingham, AL, in 1955, to serve as Young Women's Auxilliary Director for Woman's Missionary Union. She spent the remainder of her career with WMU, also serving as conference coordinator, librarian, and archivist. Doris was best known for: Christian hospitality, service to missionary children in college, love of books and history, and trips to over twenty countries. After her retirement in 1982, she was caregiver for her mother in Fall Branch, TN. For the past fourteen years, she resided in Jefferson City near nephews.

Memorial Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City with Rev. Jim Dampier officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Gray Cemetery with Rev. Vic Wallace officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carson-Newman University, 1646 Russell Ave., Jefferson City, TN 37760, or to WMU Foundation, 100 Missionary Ridge Rd., Birmingham, AL 35242.
