Doris June Ploss Morehead, 82, wife of Ronald Ray Morehead for 62 years, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Kingsport, Tennessee. She was the beloved daughter of the late Ansel and Adeline Ploss of War, West Virginia.
She was born in War, West Virginia and proudly graduated from Big Creek High School. She went on to attend Concord College. She met and married Ron while working a summer job in Texas. They eventually moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia, where they raised their family. In retirement, they moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, eventually moving to East Tennessee. She was a new member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.
Doris was a devoted mother and homemaker who will be remembered for her great sense of humor and unwavering love and care for her family. She found joy in sewing and gardening, hobbies that reflected her creativity and love of beauty. She used her unsurpassed skill in sewing to create a stunning home.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles "Chuckie" Ploss (Wanda June).
Doris is survived by her children, Ronnette Mays (John) and Sonya Pearce (Mike). Known as “Mamaw”, she is also survived by her grandchildren, Christy Monahan (Alex), Ben Mays (Meghan), and Tom Pearce; her great grandchildren, Nate and Maddie Mays and Adeline Monahan; siblings, Jack Ploss (Margaret Ann), Hazel Hicks, and Margaret Leonhardt; and many nieces and nephews.
Doris’s life was a testament to the importance of family and laughter. Her memory will continue to bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
