Dorothea Weigt Whetsel, of New Market Alabama, died unexpectedly on July 12, 2015.

Mrs. Whetsel was born in Berlin, Germany in 1938, where she grew up and then later met her husband LTC Homer R. Whetsel (deceased 1997) who was the love of her life. She was a loving and caring person who loved life and all it had to offer. She lived her life with abundance and love for family. She lived her life to ensure her husband and son were always happy and cared for. She unfortunately passed away just after her 77th birthday which she celebrated on July 10th with loved ones.

Upon the passing of her husband in 1997 she encountered health issues and lived life as best as she could and until 2005 whereby she then resided with her only son, Dwayne Jeffeory Whetsel along with his loving wife Gudrun and children Julia and Jennifer who all cared for her and lived with her in St Leon-Rot, Germany and in New Market, Alabama for over ten years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Homer Ray Whetsel; her parents, Paul Otto Weigt and Anna Weigt; her sister, Mona and her brother-in-law, Kurt; Homer Ray's parents, Clyde and Etta Whetsel; and brother-in-law, the Rev. Earl Whetsel; and Wanda Whetsel and sister-in-law, Linda Hite; and brother-in-law, Bud Sams.

Survivors include her only son, Dwayne Jeffeory Whetsel and his wife, Gudrun Whetsel and their daughters, Julia and Jennifer; her brother, Gunter Weigt and his wife, Gerda in Germany and their daughter, Claudia Raschdorf and her husband, Gerhard in Germany; niece, Iwonn and Rigo Passehl and their children in Germany; niece, Carmen and Gerrit and their children in Germany; and in the USA by her sister-in-law, Juanita Sams of Fall Branch; Carol and Gale Crawford and their children, Mark and Terri Sams and his family; David and Valerie Walters; Lorna and Mike Belt and family; Sonya and Danny Ewell as well as several nieces and nephews and also numerous friends and family in Germany and in USA that she has touched in her life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Fall Branch. The funeral service will be conducted following the visitation at the funeral home with her son Dwayne Whetsel officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Glen Community Cemetery in Fall Branch.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Whetsel, Mark Sams, Gale Crawford, Evan Crawford, David Walters and Mike Belt.
