Dorothy Duncan Knierim, 95, of Kingsport, passed away Friday, December 27, 2017, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a period of declining health. Born in Washington County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Floyd and India Stewart Duncan, she lived most of her life in this area. She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, and formerly sang in the choir. Dorothy served as a genealogist in the Palmer Room in the Kingsport Public Library, leaving in 1985 following eight years of service. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother-who was an avid gardener, family genealogist for 35 years, member of the Kingsport Coral Society, knitting, sewing, and tailoring.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Knierim, Sr., 1977; and sister, Leone Duncan Hill.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Mary Knierim of Kingsport, TN; two nieces; two great nieces; and three great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will following at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating.
Burial will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon, VA.
