Dorothy L. Bishop

Dorothy L. Bishop, 94, of Kingsport, passed away, Monday, June 5, 2023, to be together again with her precious husband and best friend of 59 years, Junior Calvin Bishop and her son, who was her pride and joy, Steward Calvin Bishop (Sonny). She was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Ray Mason; mother and stepfather, Maude and Martin Smith; stepbrother, Bill Smith.

Survivors include nephew, Bruce Smith and niece, Marie New-Meyer, of New Jersey; very dear cousins, the children of her beloved Aunts, Mrs. Lula E. Crane and Mrs. Salley Dockery, of Kingsport; sisters-in-law, Shirley Bishop and Emogaine Bishop; brothers-in-law, Chan Bishop, David Bishop and wife, Bobbie; several nieces and nephews; very dear and precious friends, Cliff and Mary Ann Starnes, Harry and JoAnn Watts; Sandra Salyer, Mike Starnes; and not forget her dear, wonderful friends at Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 9, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Robert Fletcher officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Walnut Chapel Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Starnes, Harry Watts, Charles Bogle, Kirk Wentz, Robert Bishop, Mark Bishop, Kevin Bishop and Darrell Bishop, and honorary pallbearer will be Clifford Starnes.
