Dorothy "Dot" Canady

Dot Canady, 88, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, in Gray, TN. She was born on September 3, 1935, in Johnson City to the late Dahl and Pearl Lloyd. Dot was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Canady was a dedicated homemaker and worked as a dietary worker at the VA hospital. She had a passion for music and was an active member of Greenvale Missionary Baptist Church in Johnson City, where she sang and played the piano and guitar during services.

Dot was preceded in death by her loving husband, Doil Canady; her parents, Dahl and Pearl Lloyd; her brother, Earl Lloyd; sisters, Berta Crowder, Judy Foster, and Barbara Julian; and granddaughter, Chantelle Dye.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Ray Canady and daughter-in-law, Mary Ruth; daughters, Gloria Schmidt and husband Reno, Patricia Hawkins and husband Max, and Janice Williams and husband Matthew. Dot was a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren, Russell Dye, Jason Gillette, Colleen Efurd, Erik Hawkins, Elexa Hawkins, Ella Hawkins, Elecsonder Hawkins, Lynsey Burleson, and Jonathan Canady and her great-grandchildren, Corbin Hawkins, Austin Reber, Rebecca Burleson, Parker Burleson, Hunter Dye, Michaela McCusker, Marcus Dye, Jillian Gillette, and Sutter Gillette, who brought immense joy to her life.

The family will receive friends from 5pm – 6pm on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Blountville, TN. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Travis Shaffer and Pastor Kevin Laws officiating. 

The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Dot's life and sharing cherished memories at the home after the service.

Dot will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. May her soul find eternal peace.
