Dorothy Doran Caldwell Bass, of Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.

She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. Dorothy was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church on Park Street. She did services at the church and was a Sunday School Teacher, working with young people on Wednesday nights, was secretary and treasurer of the women's ministry, director of the Missions of Appalachian Conference and was on the board of the Women's Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Bill Caldwell after 60 years; her second husband, Jessie Bass; father, Robert Doran; mother, Bertha Bowery Doran; brothers, Bill Doran, Kyle Doran, Robert "Bob" Doran, George Doran, Roy Doran and Denver Doran; sisters-in-law, Glenna Doran, Minnie Doran, Loraine Doran and Alice Doran; nephews, Johnnie and Larry Doran; grandsons, Ronnie Smith, William Smith; granddaughter, Terry Ruth Rickman; and great-grandson, Joshua Smith.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Mary Ruth Wagner and husband, Connie Mack; son, James "Jim" Caldwell and wife, Nancy; sister, Margie Hand; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Doran and Maudine Doran; grandson by marriage, Larry Rickman; grandsons, Robert Wagner and Dakota Caldwell; great-granddaughters, Tiffany Tallent and husband, Jonathan, Hannah Grace Rickman and Hayden Wagner; great-grandson, Gabriel "Gabe" Wagner; great-great-grandson, Joshua Tallent; and her honorary granddaughter, Trinity Williams.


The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Paul Wright officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday in Zion Cemetery in Baileyton. Those planning to attend are invited to meet at 1:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, to follow in procession.

Pallbearers will be Conley Doran, Robert Wagner, Bobby Williams, Leroy Doran, Denny Doran, and Donnie Doran.
