Dorothy Anglin "Dot" Jenkins went to be with her savior, Jesus on Saturday, March 12, 2011.
Dot was born in Bogalusa, LA, to Murray and Grace Anglin. As a young girl, she attended Bible camp in the mountains of North Carolina at Montreat. Dot vowed then that when she grew up she would live in the mountains. That eventually came to pass when she became the bride of William H. Jenkins, a native of Johnson City, TN. Dot and Bill met while both were stationed in Fort Worth, TX, he as an Air Force pilot and she as a Delta stewardess. They knew each other only three months before marryinga"a loving union that would last almost 60 years. Bill left the Armed Forces in 1953 to join Pet Dairy which brought the young couple to Tennesseea"along with their first daughter, Polly. Their second daughter, Jo Ann, was born in Johnson City, and before long the family moved to Kingsport, where the girls grew up. Bill's career later took the couple to Virginia, Pennsylvania, and NJ, before they chose to retire in Kingsport.
After Bill's death in 2009, Dot moved into the Baysmont independent living community in Kingsport. Although she dearly missed her husband, she pursued an active and happy life there. She traveled with both of her daughters and son-in-law, and participated in a host of activities with friends.
Dot was a very talented seamstress, Bible and Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, and gardener. She was a life-long Christian in the Southern Baptist Convention. First Baptist Church of Kingsport was her church home in the '60s and again after retirement. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her daughters Polly Price and son-in-law Dennis of Atlanta, GA, Jo Ann Grigsby-Jenkins of Kingsport; grandchildren Jacob Grigsby and Jocelyn Grigsby of Kingsport; sister Rosemary McElveen and husband Diaz of Bogalusa, Louisiana; brother Murray Anglin and wife Nancy of Eutawville, SC; sister-in-law Jemima Milhorn and husband Glenn of Kingsport; brother-in-law David Jenkins and wife Nancy of Tucker, GA; plus many much-loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11-12 noon Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will begin at 12 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating.
