Dorothy Ruth Galloway Lewis, 90, passed away Monday, April 30, 2007, at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell, GA, following complications from a stroke. She was born in Sullivan County, the youngest child of George W. and Lena Larkin Galloway, and lived most of her life in the Kingsport area.
Dorothy was a graduate of Sullivan High School and a homemaker. She moved to the Atlanta suburbs in 1993 to be closer to her family. Until very recently she had been very active, including driving her car, buying groceries, and playing Bingo at her local Krogers. She loved family gatherings, especially her 90th birthday party just two months ago. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Verlin W. Lewis, and her three brothers, Ernest, Lowell, and Joe Galloway.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Hu Love of Woodstock, Georgia; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jerry V. and Joan Lewis of Mount Airy, Georgia; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with Pastor J. W. Depew officiating. Family will serve as pallbearers.
