Dorothy Elizabeth Cox Myers, 95, of Kingsport died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Church Hill Life Care after an extended illness. She was born in Kingsport July 25, 1916 and resided there throughout her life.
Dorothy was a 1935 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. She was a homemaker and long-time member of First United Methodist Church and a current member of Mountain View United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and prior to declining health, was an active member of the Sullivan County Historical Society and the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Finley Cox and Elizabeth Boyer Cox, one sister and two brothers.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 72 years, E.P. Myers of Kingsport; daughter, Dianne Myers Montford and husband, Charles of Kingsport; four grandchildren, David Richard Scruggs and wife, Catherine, Church Hill, TN, Elizabeth Scruggs Whiting and husband, Darren, Nashville, TN, Andrew Myers Scruggs, Highland Park, NJ and Brian Edward Montford and wife, Angela, Elizabethton, TN; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank each of Mrs. Myers' Kingsport caregivers, the staffs of Lakebridge Healthcare Center and Church Hill Life Care Center
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, June 16th at 1:30 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Donald Lederer officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
