Dorothy Mabel Overbey

Dorothy M. Overbey, 88, of Kingsport, died April 9, 2009. She was born in Madison County, NC and resided in Kingsport most of her life. Mrs. Overbey was a homemaker and a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, H. Carson Overbey, parents Lula Bell and Conley Sawyer, sisters - Allie Hensley, Reba Fulkerson, Nettie Talbert, Malta Moats, and Stella Hensley; brothers - Clyde Sawyer and Ralph Sawyer.

She is survived by daughter Joyce Hicks and husband Ronald of Louisville, KY; sons - H. Wayne Overbey and wife Brenda of Kingsport, John L. Overbey and wife Bobbie of Orlando, FL, Randall M. Overbey and wife Carol of Knoxville, and Scott Overbey and wife Beverly of Gray; sister Biddie Bailey and husband Bryce of Kingsport; grandchildren - Suzannah Stephens and husband Brian, Ronald Hicks III and wife Natalie, Meredith Walston and husband Jason, Paula Jones and husband Kevin, Pamela Bentley, Elizabeth Pocius and husband Bill, Benjamin Overbey, Julie King and husband Tom, Robert Overbey, Jim Overbey and wife Christy, Rebecca Fink and husband Cacy; great-grandchildren - Luke Stephens, Harrison Jones, Haley Jones, Walker Burleson, Ethan Smith, Chloe Smith, Trey King, Cameron King, Jordan Overbey, Emily Overbey, and Hayden Overbey; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the chapel with Rev. Greg Burton and Bob McNew officiating. Burial will follow at Tri Cities Memory Gardens.
