Dorothy R. "Dot" Sams, 80, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with her Lord Friday, January 13, 2012, at Wexford House following a brief illness.
Born in Hawkins County, Dorothy had resided in Sullivan County for most of her life. She retired after many years of service as an office manager for automotive businesses in the Kingsport area. She attended St. Luke United Methodist Church in Kingsporta"the church she loved.
She was preceded in death by, her parents, Robert and Maggie Lou Rutledge; in-laws, Fleet and Birdie Sams; grandson, Joshua Sams; sister, Helen Ballman; brother, Bobby Joe Rutledge; and brothers-in-law, Paul Ballman, Jimmy C. Light, and Artie Sams.
Survivors include: her loving husband of 61 years, Lyle Sams; daughter, Janet Davis and fiancé Marty Godsey of Bristol; sons, Mike Sams of Kingsport, Roger Sams of Johnson City, Dennis Sams of Kingsport, and Randy Sams and fiancée Nancy Carr of Johnson City; grandchildren, Eric Sams and fiancée Sarah Goins, Jessica Sams; great-grandson, James; brother, Paul and wife Mary Emma Rutledge; sister, Carolyn Light; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with Rev. Susan Arnold officiating.
