Dr. David J. Tanner, 64, of Johnson City, TN went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 15, 1948 in Decatur, IL to Virginia McCloud Dixon and Clifford Tanner.

David served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1971. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Pharmacology from the University of Kentucky in 1974. David went on to receive his Masters of Business Administration Degree from the University of New Haven in 1985.

He spent his early career as a pharmacist and went on to become Pharmacy Director at Yale New Haven Hospital from 1979 to 1987. He then went on to become a Marketing Management Consultant for 20+ years.

When it came to realizing you come from success, to significance for God, David went on to earn his Doctorate of Practical Theology from Masters of Divinity in 2004 and an Associate's Degree of Bible Studies from Liberty University in 2006.

David was as a devoted servant of God. He preached and mentored all those seeking spiritual guidance and wisdom. He was actively involved in bringing the word of God to veterans through his fellowship at the VA Hospital in Johnson City. He worked with Blackaby Ministries from 2008-2010 with Dr. Henry Blackaby and Richard Blackaby. Most recently, with passion and perseverance, David served as the interim pastor of Faith Fellowship in Johnson City, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dr. Tanner is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Linda Mobley-Tanner; son David J. Tanner II and wife Melissa Tanner of Plainfield, IN, daughter Tammy T. Scott and husband Rockwell Scott of Johnson City, TN, son Bradley W. Tanner and wife Melissa Tanner of Kingsport, TN, and three grandchildren David, Nathaniel, and Tanner.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 22nd at 2pm at Christ Fellowship, 260 Victory Lane Kingsport, TN 37664 with Rev. Michael Cloer officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted following the service at Washington County Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 3/265.
