Dr. Edward "Ed" Counts, 63 of Knoxville, passed away Thursday Aug. 27, 2009 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
He was born in Bristol, TN to the late Edward L. Counts Sr. and the late Lindell Hammond Counts.
He received his Bachelors degree from ETSU in Johnson City. Upon graduation he joined the Air Force, living in Texas and spending 3 years in England. He received his Doctorate degree in Educational Technology from East Texas State University . Ed taught at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY and founded the Center for Teaching and Learning, which later became the FaCET Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching. During his tenure in Bowling Green, he was awarded the designation of being a Kentucky Colonel. He had been a professor at the College of Education at University of Tennessee, Knoxville for the past ten years, being a mentor to Graduate Students.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Bruner Counts in Nov. 2006.
He is survived by daughter, Katie Counts and granddaughter; Abby Counts of Knoxville, TN; brother, Marty Counts and wife Chris, Bristol, VA; and step-mother, Virginia Counts of Bristol, TN and several cousins.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 12 to 2pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, TN. Graveside services will be conducted at 3pm at Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol TN. with Rev. Nelson C. Woody officiating. Those attending the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:50 pm.
