Dr. Edwin Taylor Boyd, 80, Kingsport, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014.
He was born April 9, 1934, in Barbourville, KY, son of the late Edwin H. and Calvin M. Boyd. He attended Barbourville City School through grade 10. He graduated in 1952 Summa Cum Laude from Darlington School, Rome, GA. Edwin graduated in 1956 Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, with a BA degree in Chemistry. Member of Sigma XI and Pi Beta Kappa, honorary scholastic fraternities. He attended the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Edwin graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1960 with a PhD in Organic Chemistry. He worked at Eastman Chemical Company, primarily in Cellulose Esters Division for 36 years, retiring in 1996. He was a past member of Loyal Order of Moose and B.P. of Elks. He was a past member of Kingsport Art Guild where he served as Treasurer and President. His hobbies included doing needlepoint, playing bridge, and watching sports on television.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 48 years, Ann T. Boyd.
He is survived by two sons, Joe Boyd and wife, Carla, Knoxville, and Tim Boyd and wife, Becky, Lenoir City, TN; one daughter, Katy Light and husband, Chris, Fredericksburg, VA; four grandchildren, Caroline Boyd, Courtney Boyd, Jonathan Boyd, and Adam Light.
There will be a graveside service on Monday at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.
