Dr. Kenneth F. Freels, 74, Kingsport, died at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, he was a graduate of UT School of Dentistry, and retired with the rank of Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserves. He practiced dentistry in Colonial Heights until 2005.
Ken was a Baptist. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, First District Dental Society, Kingsport Dental Society, Reserve Officers' Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Optimist Club of Colonial Heights.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Jean Freels, and his sister, Alma Jean Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Chapman Freels; two brothers-in-laws, Gary Chapman, of Chattanooga, TN, and Ernest Campbell; nephew Ernie Campbell and wife Becky; niece Linda Wood and husband Jimmy, all of Memphis; great-nephews Nicholas Campbell and Bryan Wood, both of Memphis; aunts Ruth Stout and Irene Jones, both of Harriman, and Shirley Ann Goodman, Knoxville; uncles John Freels, PA, Robert Freels, FL, and Don Rather, Oliver Springs, TN.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 7 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, and from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs, TN. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at East Fork Cemetery in Oak Ridge, TN.
