Dr. Paul Von Bramer, 86 of Kingsport, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, April 22, 2013. He retired after 30 years of service from Eastman Chemical Company first joining the company as chief chemist and then serving in a host of senior management roles. A native of Hawthorne, N.J., Dr. Von Bramer was the son of Harold and Marguerite Von Bramer and lived most of his life in East Tennessee. He received a BS degree in Chemistry and a PhD degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy and was a past president and board member of the Boys/Girls Club of Greater Kingsport. Dr. Von Bramer was also a past member of the Appalachian Express Chorus and an active parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Carolyn Von Bramer and his sister, Lillian Brown.
Dr. Von Bramer is survived by his daughter, Jan Von Bramer and husband, Colin Dinnery of Kingsville, MD; son, Jim Von Bramer of Kingsport; three sisters, Ruth Von Bramer of Baltimore, MD; Connie McNamara and husband, John of Gray, TN; and Peggy Davis and husband, Dave of Lincoln City, OR; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Park of Milford, CT; and Suzanne Macklen and husband, Bob of Wendell, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A Funeral Mass for Paul will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Father Mike Nolan officiating. Preceding the service, Ruth Von Bramer will play a medley of inspirational music. There will be a reception at the church following the service where the Appalachian Express Chorus will provide a special song selection. Entombment will follow the service at Oak Hill Memorial Park mausoleum for family members and close friends.
