II Corinthians 5:8
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Draxie Short, daughter of James Webster and Mary Mullins Wright, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, after a brief illness. Mrs. Short was born in Pike County, KY on May 1, 1916. After moving to Kingsport, she and her husband owned and operated Short's Grocery and Coal Yard for several years in the Bell Ridge area. They moved to Florida for several years. After retiring they came to live in Jonesborough, Harmony Community. Draxie was a long time member of Bethany Regular Baptist Church in Bloomingdale. She was loved by everyone who met her and will be greatly missed. She made a host of friends over the years. Draxie loved quilting and gardening, a passion of hers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Frank of 79 ½ years; son, Roy K. Short; 2 infant daughters, Evalea and Wanda Jo; 3 brothers, George, Grover and Hassel; grandson, Johnny Bralley, Jr.; son-in-law, John Bralley; and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Short.
Draxie is survived by son, Don W. Short (Martha); daughter, Wilma Bralley, both of Jonesborough, Harmony Community; sister, Laudie Burke who lived with her; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was a mamaw to all. She leaves special sisters-in-law, Almeda Addington of Florida, Jean Wright of Church Hill and Betty Wright of Jonesville, VA.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 3-5:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 pm at Bethany Regular Baptist Church, Bloomingdale, with Elder Walter Rose and Elder Danny Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.
Pallbearers will be Cody Robbins, Chris Robbins, Dennis Robbins, Lance Huffman, Larry Short and Tony Short. Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Lowrance and David Short.
Very special gratitude to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their dedication to our mom. A loving thank you to Johnnie and Patsy for their wonderful care. Also to Mike (Chaplin) for his compassion and support during this time with mom.
