Duane Sidney Snodgrass, 76, died peacefully Monday morning after an extended illness. Duane was born October 16, 1940 in Kingsport. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1958, from East Tennessee State College (now ETSU) in 1962 and from the University of Tennessee School of Law in 1964. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army serving as a legal counsel for the Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1964-1965 where he earned a Commendation for Meritorious Service. Afterward he returned to his beloved Kingsport where he joined Lon Boyd and his uncle Lynn Lauderback in the practice of law. He worked from their Shelby Street office for 16 years where he practiced in all Tennessee courts including the State Supreme Court and the Federal District Court. In 1982, he became a General Sessions Judge which he remained until his retirement in 2011. Duane was a Shriner, a Mason, and a member of First Baptist Church. Duane was blessed with many lifelong friends who shared his passion for trail riding, fishing and hunting. Together they had many outings and were avid members of the Kingsport Outdoorsmen Club. He was married to Kay Henshaw from 1958-1975 and they had two children, Terri and David. He married Vickie Sanders in 1981. Through the years, Duane's greatest joy came from his family. He was the proud son of Sidney and Wanda Snodgrass and grew up sharing a passion for horses with his brothers Phil and Klyne. He loved experiencing adventures with his children and grandchildren Griffin, Parker, Emily, Maci and Ellie. He was blessed to be a great grandfather to Emerson. They all spent many wonderful days on his farm along the Holston River making memories that will last a lifetime. Duane will be remembered as a man who lived life to its fullest, embracing each day.
