E. Ray Gilliam, Jr., 85, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 25, 2015.
Born in Eidson, TN, he had resided in the Fall Branch community since retiring in 1968 from the United States Army. Ray had begun his military career in 1948 having served and fought in the Korean War. He also served at Fort Bliss, Texas, Fort Clayton, Panama, and retired as G2 (General Intelligence) Sgt. Major for the Army of Alaska in Fort Richardson, AK.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Myrtle Gilliam; and two sisters, Iva Dell Salyer and Dana Crutchfield.
He is survived by his wife, Rebeca Gilliam; four daughters, Kathy Irving and husband, Bob, Iva Dell Rice and husband, Jim, Anadel Gilliam, and Hazel Casad and husband, Mitch; four sons, Jerry Brady and wife, Diane, Paul Gilliam Bachman, Ray Gilliam and wife, Teresa, and Marcos SanMartin and wife Yoly; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Lula Fink and husband, Bill; and several nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Paul Gilliam Bachman and Rev. Ray Gilliam officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
