E. Keith McMurray, 66, of Kingsport passed away Tuesday (August 20, 2013) at Indian Path Medical Center following a period of declining health.
Born in Kingsport on April 17, 1947, a son of the late Ervin Samuel and Verna Irene Litton McMurray, he had resided in this area most of his life.
Keith was a 1965 graduate of Gate City High School, graduated from Steed Business College and finished with a degree in Business and Accounting from East Tennessee State University in 1969. He was a former cost accountant and plant manager for Federal Pacific Transformers in Bristol, VA and had also been employed at Sperry in Bristol, TN and Intergraph in Huntsville, AL. Mr. McMurray was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the US Army and was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Keith was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Anne McMurray and by a brother, Samuel Michael McMurray.
Survivors include his former wife of 40 years, Jo Rita Light McMurray of Kingsport; aunt, Ettna Faulk of Kingsport; several cousins; his fur buddies, Mollie and Emma.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p. m. Thursday (August 22, 2013) at Hamlett-Dobson, Downtown. An Appreciation Service will be conducted prior to visitation hours on Thursday by Vietnam Veterans of America, Kingsport, TN Chapter # 979. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel with Pastor Steve Counts officiating.
Entombment services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Friday (August 23, 2013) in Mausoleum #4 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by The American Legion, Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Vanzant, Denny Hayes, Jerry Larkey, Ron Carter, Steve Patrick and members of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at the mausoleum by 9:45 a. m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Worship and Music Fund or the Organ Fund, 800 Broad Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.
