E. G. "Gene" Whitaker
E. G. Gene Whitaker, 66, of Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 30, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County.
Gene was a former Marine and loving father.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Whitaker.
Gene is survived by a special friend, Patricia Leab, of Johnson City; children, Bascom Edward Whitaker, of Bristol, VA, E. G. Whitaker, Jr., of Bristol, VA, Sheila Walz, of Richmond, VA, Matthew Mark Whitaker, of Bristol, VA, Amanda Garrison, of Elizabethton and Bambi Whitaker, of Elizabethton; sixteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Whitaker, of Bristol, TN, Roy Whitaker, of Jonesborough and Dwight Whitaker, of Johnson City; sister, Marie Gregg, of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 2nd from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. at The Lord's House Church, Chuckey, TN. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Thacker officiating.
Graveside services will be Monday, December 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Fall Branch.
