Earl G. Selfe

Earl G. Selfe, 91, passed away peacefully at The Wexford House in Kingsport, TN after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Johnson Selfe. He was born in Abingdon, Virginia and resided in Kingsport since 1955. Mr. Selfe was a retired over the road truck driver having worked for Roy B. Moore Trucking for more than 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport. He was very active in his community and was still volunteering at United Way as well as other organizations in the area. He was a member of Kingsport Masonic Lodge # 688 F & AM, a York Rite and a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Jericho Shrine Temple and Liberty Chapter OES. Mr. Selfe had a lifelong love of square dancing, line dancing and keeping fit. Until but a few years ago he taught aerobics to local senior citizens. He was a sharp dresser and always a true gentleman.

Mr. Selfe was one of 12 children of the late John and Bessie Fleenor Selfe and is also preceded in death by four brothers, Claude, John, Jack and Jerry Selfe, and seven sisters, Ethel Smelser, Ora Roe, Stella Dickson, Mary Raines, Nell Lilly, Cleo Urbancyzk and Betty Callahan.

Mr. Selfe is survived by his loving friend, Shirley Saylor of Blountville and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Hamlett-Dobson, Downtown. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00am in the chapel with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Entombment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA with Rev. Harry Layell officiating.
