Earl Perkins, 84, of Kingsport, died early Monday morning, February 18, 2008, at his home. He was born in Butler, TN, and had resided in Harrisonburg, VA, for 43 years before moving to Kingsport 17 years ago. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army. He had retired in 1982 from the Teamsters Joint Council #83, and was also a Virginia business agent for Teamsters Local #29. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Masonic Lodge, and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hosea and Mamie Booher Perkins; his first wife, Cleo Baker Perkins; 2 brothers, Ray E. Perkins and Sidney Perkins; 4 sisters, Irene Yon, Ruby Shuler, Shirley Marlow, and Thelma Perkins; son-in-law, Wayne Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Della; his daughter, Linda Reed, Harrisonburg, VA; his son, Bernard Perkins and wife, Jo Anne, Harrisonburg, VA; step-daughters, Myra Dawn Thornsberry and husband, A. J., Wheelwright, KY, and Sandra Lee Akers and husband, Jack, Melvin, KY, ; step-sons Dicky Tackett and wife, Lou Ann, Price, KY, and Ricky Dean Tackett and wife, Virginia, Huntington, IN; 1 sister, Gladys Ramey, Hampton, TN; 2 brothers, Walter Perkins, Lenore, NC, and Herman Perkins, Kirkwood, PA; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, VA.
