Edwin Bomar Neale, Sr., 78, died Monday, August 26, 2013 after a brief illness.
He was born in Lexington, KY August 6, 1935, to Duward (Dee) and Amy Louise Neale. He was raised in Paris, KY, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy in Oak Ridge, NC. Ed moved to Kingsport in 1950. He worked at Pure Oil Company and was paymaster for Daniels Construction in building the glass plant in Hawkins County. Ed worked at Slip Not Belting as the Treasurer for 43 years until retiring. He was President of Kingsport Optimist Club. He served in many capacities at Kingsport Moose Lodge, including prelate on the Ritual debating team. He was a member for 30 years at the old Meadowview Golf Course and served on the board of governors. He then, with the other board members, selected the land to establish the Crossings Golf Course and served as treasurer, president, and in other duties. He loved the Crossings and enjoyed many rounds of golf there with his good friends.
Ed was an avid UK fan, and defended his Kentucky University against all opponents including Tennessee fans who gathered with him at Rush Street Restaurant.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Marian Frazier Neale; sister, Jeri McGurk (Jim); mother, Louise Neale Lee; daughters, Susan Neale Jones (Mike), Donna Hash (Gary Redden), and Dede Hash; son, Edwin B. Neale, Jr.; grandchildren, Melissa Jones Pauley (Bill), Jared Jones (Morgan), Rachel Jones Tate (Steven), Jessica Neale, Donnie Neale, Katelyn Bull and Molly Hash; great-grandchildren, Laura, Emma Grace, Isabella, Dylan, Drew Bailey, Kingston, Aiden, Myleah, Ryleigh, Bryson, Noah, and Brookelyn.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 29, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The service will follow with Rev. Layton Bentley officiating.
Interment will be on Friday, August 30, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Richard Cross, Mark Taylor, Tom Anderson, John Branum, Jared Jones and Steven Tate. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Negrotto, Charlie Morelock, Buddy Broyles, George Moody, Mike Jones, and Gary Redden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crossings Golf course, P.O. Box 190, Fall Branch, TN, 37656, or to a charity of your choice.
