Edith Baeder Chapman, 89, born in Esslingen, Germany, passed peacefully at her home on January 9, 2019. After enduring the horrors of WWII in Germany, meeting and marrying (62 Years) her US Army husband, and having their daughter, she came to the USA. Edith was a very loving soul who never knew a stranger. She was a charter member of Concordia Lutheran Church, had worked at St. Pauls Episcopal church in child care, and had taken care of many children as she was particularly fond of children. Edith was a loving mother, wife and avid gardener. She was a courageous soul and a wonderful example as what a child of God should be, volunteering her time and giving to all.
Her husband Howard passed away in 2014 and son, Thomas Michael in 2017.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Patricia L. Chapman and Lesley K. Chapman and husband, Scott Thurston; sisters, Irmgard Kutzner and Lilo Entenmann; brother, Hermann Strobach; as well as many friends and family.
A Christian service and celebration of Edith's life will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Paul B. Becker officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, Va.
Pallbearers will be Scott Thurston, David Rossetti, Cassandra Holloway and William Harper.
Special thanks to caregivers Amy, Pam, and Anna, Meals on Wheels, and Shepherd Center.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 725 Truxton Dr. and/or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 3346, Kingsport, Tn.
