Edith Rachel Vannoy Baxter, 86, of Fall Branch, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, November 22, 2008. She passed away peacefully at home with her family surrounding her.

Born on March 24, 1922, near Greeneville, TN, she grew up in the Liberty Hill Community in Chuckey, TN. After her marriage in 1939, she lived in Fall Branch on Fordtown Road until her death. For 69 years she was married to Glen M. Baxter. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 27, 2009.

Mrs. Baxter attended Chuckey High School, and in 1952 she graduated from the Greeneville School of Commerce. After a brief time of working at Eastman Kodak, she became a full time homemaker.

In 1946 she joined Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church where she was pianist and organist for 45 years. She was a Sunday School teacher for young adults, women, men and youth and a Methodist Youth Fellowship Counselor. Mrs. Baxter served as Vice-President of the Kingsport District Women's Society of Christian Service and was on the Board of Global Ministries for Holston Conference United Methodist Church. In 1948 she was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star, Washington Chapter No. 57, and served as Worthy Matron.

Some of Edith Baxter's favorite things were cooking, quilting, music, flowers, and her doll collection. Her family, home, and church were everything to her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Virgil Osborne Vannoy and Jennie Mae Crumley Vannoy; and her brothers, Thomas Milton Vannoy and Kenneth Paul Vannoy.

In addition to her husband, Glen M. Baxter, she is survived by two daughters, Polly Baxter Moyle and husband John S. of Kingsport and Betty Baxter Cangelosi of Fall Branch; a son, Glen "Bo" Baxter, Jr. of Fall Branch, five grandchildren, Dr. Robin Baxter Moyle and husband Dr. Christopher Rodi of Novato, CA, Scott A. Cangelosi and wife Angela of Altamonte Springs, FL, John W. Moyle and wife Jennifer of Herndon, VA, Dr. Robert G. Moyle and wife Jennifer of Lawrence, KS, and Todd A. Cangelosi and wife Leigh of Branford, FL; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren, Vincent, and Alexander Cangelosi, Nicholas and Jared Rodi, Samuel, Matthew, and Kaylin Moyle; a sister, Mary Nell Stegall of Johnson City; two nieces and three nephews.

A time of visitation will be held at Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church in Fall Branch on Tuesday, November 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. A service of remembrance and celebration will follow with Rev. Westley Duncan and Pastor John W. Moyle officiating. Special music will be provided by James Chatman.

A burial service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, at Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Cangelosi, John W. Moyle, Robert Moyle, Todd Cangelosi, Leroy Brown, and Jerry Chatman.
