Edith L. Owens, 86, Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at her residence following a period of declining health. Born in Scottsboro, AL, she was the daughter of the late Allen E. and Ada Lee Cosby McGuire. She had resided in this area for most of her life. She was owner, operator of the Cupboard Convenience Store in Colonial Heights (the original Mother of the Cupboard). She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Victor B. Owens, Sr. (2008); her son, Victor B. "Dickie" Owens, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Sandy Wilson Owens; and nine brothers and sisters.
Edith is survived by her children, Demetrice Garst, Kingsport, Allen Owens and wife, Jenelle, Kingsport, and Kim Arnold, Kingsport; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Wellmont Hospice for all the special care and support given in her time of need.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2:00 pm on Saturday at Bethany Presbyterian Church 5825 Ft. Henry Drive, Kingsport, TN. The service will follow at 2:00 pm at the church with Rev. Ron Bradshaw and Rev. Charles Echols officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
