Edith Minton

Edith Minton, 90, of Kingsport departed this life peacefully Friday evening February 21, 2020 at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Dante Virginia on July 23, 1929 a daughter of the late Bud and Cora Sims Edwards, she has resided in this area most of her adult life.

She married L.J. Minton on February 16, 1952 in Lebanon VA.

Edith was a homemaker.                                                  

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mom, mamaw, sister and friend who loved her grandchildren.  She loved to cook, flowers and gardening.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years L.J. Minton, 2014, three brothers and two sisters.

Edith is survived by her children Ronnie Minton (Viv) of Hampton, VA, Gary Minton (Linda) of Kingsport, TN, and Tammy Alley (Scott) of Mount Carmel; 7 grandchildren, Lorie Gaskins, Lisa Aiken, Angela Grimsley, Brandon Minton, Kendra Minton, Jessica Alley and Collin Alley;  13 great-children; 3 great great-grandchildren; sisters Sue Edwards of North Carolina and Judy Kaywood (Harold) of Kingsport, TN;  brother Gene Edwards of Kingsport TN; several nieces and nephews; special friend Beverly Harrison of Arizona; her cat Patches.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday at Hamlett-Dobson, Downtown. The funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. James Seal officiating. Special music will be provided by Fairview Baptist Church Quartet.

Burial will follow committal services at 11 a.m., Tuesday in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Grimsley, Jacob Franklin, Andrew Franklin, Scooter Eidson, Michael Armstrong and Brandon Minton.

Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m., Tuesday and then proceed to the cemetery.
