Edna Marie Staley Gregory, age 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Wexford House in Kingsport, Tennessee. She was born in Knox County, Tennessee on January 22, 1930 to Zetta (Kee) Staley and the Reverend William Sidney Staley, Sr. Edna met her husband, Lawrence Russell Gregory in Maryville, Tennessee in 1945 and they were married in 1948. They were married for 61 years. She was a lifelong resident of East Tennessee, living in Knox County, Maryville, Newport, Morristown, Knoxville, and for the last eight years, in the Wexford House in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Of her many career accomplishments, Edna treasured her experience as one of Tennessee's first paralegals. She was a helpmeet to her husband in the drugstores they owned in Newport and later in Knoxville. Edna instilled in her children and grandchildren a love of nature, wildflowers, camping, cooking, music and reading.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Russell Gregory; two brothers; one sister; her granddaughter, Rebecca; and grandson, John.
She is loved and remembered by her sisters, Judy McNeilly of Murrayville, Georgia, and Naomi Burns of Jonesboro, Arkansas; brothers, David Staley of Friendsville, Tennessee and Charles Staley of Maryville, Tennessee; daughter, Janna (Gregory) Blackley of Bristol, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Vicki (Hodges) Gregory of Corvallis, Oregon; sons, David Gregory of Bristol, Tennessee, Dan Gregory and wife, Donna (Davis) Gregory of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Stan Gregory and wife, Kathryn Boyer of Corvallis, Oregon; she deeply loved her grandchildren, Rob Blackley, Jonathan Blackley, Sarah (Blackley) Dameron, Kari Gregory, Katie Gregory, Stephen Staley, Claire Staley, Wendy (Davis) Bilek, Chrissey (Davis) Stephens and Leann Rawls; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Her family will arrange for a private burial beside her husband at the Missionary Baptist Church in Cades Cove, Tennessee at a later date.
