With love we remember Edna Lorraine Johnson Pratt, a caring lady with a generous spirit, who lived by her Christian values and always put others before herself. She left us on April 11, 2014 at age 95.
Mrs. Pratt was born on February 11, 1919, the fourth of ten children of Arthur L. Johnson and Eliza Lawson Johnson. She grew up in a large and loving family on a farm in southwest Virginiaa"a life that instilled in her a respect for faith and hard work. After completing high school in Gate City, VA, she came to Kingsport to work and met Frank Pratt, who worked for the railroad. They married in 1938 and were together for 56 years until his death in 1994.
Most of her married life was spent in Kingsport where she worked alongside her husband at their businesses: Pratt's Garden Center and Gift Shop, Colonial Heights Hardware, and Pratt's Barn. She was particularly adept at choosing gifts to be sold at their popular gift shops. After they retired, they enjoyed playing golf, travelling abroad, and spending time in Beech Mountain, NC, and Daytona Beach Shores, Florida.
Mrs. Pratt was a skilled floral arranger and a longtime member of Flower Lovers Garden Guild. As a volunteer, she made flower arrangements for the Holston Valley Hospital gift shop. Her other interests were playing bridge with her bridge clubs, painting, gardening, and taking adult education courses.
She enjoyed 95 happy and healthy years and touched many lives. She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind: her daughter Lori (Delores) Bond and husband Everett of Kingsport; her son Tom Pratt and special friend Noi Phandolack of Kingsport; grandchildren Andy Bond and wife Melissa (Cary, NC); Katie Bond Morgan and husband Ward (Richmond, VA); Jennifer Bond Walker and husband Kris (Highland Park, IL); Landon Pratt (Johnson City, TN); Jonathan Pratt and fiancée Tiffany Lashae Whitney (Murfreesboro, TN) and eleven great-grandchildren: Bailey, Samantha, Drew, and Tristan Bond; Carter, Audrey, and Maeve Morgan; Ella, Tane, and Kavan Walker; and Emma Lorraine Pratt.
She also leaves behind her brother, H.T. Johnson (Church Hill, TN), and her sister, Mary Davis (Kingsport) as well as sisters-in-law, Zula Johnson(Coppel, TX), Evelyn Johnson(Kingsport), Trula Johnson(Frederick, MD) and Ruth Pratt (Kingsport).
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Frank T. Pratt, seven of her siblings (Curtis Johnson, Rita Baldwin, Clyde Johnson, Ross Johnson, J.F. Johnson, A.L. Johnson Jr., and Phyllis McConnell) as well as four sisters-in-law (Rella Johnson, Sylva Johnson, Hazel Tittsworth, Meredith Johnson) and four brothers-in-law( Morris Baldwin, Clifford Davis, Pete Pratt and John Tittsworth).
Mrs. Pratt was a member of First Baptist Church, Kingsport, where a memorial service will be held on Wednesday April 16 at 2:30PM with Dr. Marvin Cameron and Dr. Ron Davis officiating, preceded by a graveside service and burial at 1:30PM at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the memorial service.
