Edna Curtis Purvis

Edna Curtis Purvis passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Purvis was a career librarian and teacher in Kingsport and Sullivan County schools. She was a member of the Sullivan County Teachers Association, and the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority. She was also a past member of DAR Nolichucky Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bird Purvis on January 23, 1983.

Mrs. Purvis is survived by one daughter, Ellen Purvis Abernathy, husband Joseph, of Knoxville, TN; two sons, Robert W. Purvis, wife Theresa, of Rogersville, TN, and Calvin B. Purvis, wife Ann, of Kingsport, TN; two grandchildren, Colston Robert Abernathy and Anne Elaine Abernathy; two sisters, LaWanda C. Baskette (the late Walter D.) of Kingsport, TN, and Jean C. Thayer, husband J. Garland of Gray, TN; her special friend, Bill Griffin; brother-in-law Col. Silas W. Purvis, wife Doris, of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law Mary Belle Purvis of Greeneville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson with Dr. J. Garland Thayer officiating. The graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Lovelace Baptist Church Cemetery in Fall Branch, TN.
