Edna H. Wagner

Edna H. Wagner died Thursday morning, March 6, 2014, at Asbury Place at Baysmont after a brief illness. Born in Hancock County, she was raised in Church Hill, where she resided most of her life. Edna accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel June 19, 1932, where she and Virgil raised their children. Edna was a very mission-minded lady and faithful church member, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Sanctuary Choir member, served in the WMU in various capacities and especially loved her Senior Adult gatherings at Oak Grove in her later years.

She loved and enjoyed fellowship of her church family and remained active in church activities as long as her health permitted. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to God, family and friends. For many years she was a member of the first Ladies' Home Demonstration Club in Mount Carmel and was very much a part of the PTA when her children were in school. She was a volunteer at Community Clothes Closet and Emergency Food Services in Church Hill. Edna enjoyed cooking and sharing food with others, growing beautiful roses and always raised a garden and preserved many, many fruits and vegetables. Mother, grandmother and great-grandchildren's house was the "family gathering place" on most holidays and the place to meet on Sunday evenings following church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband (May 7, 1997) of more than 53 years, Virgil Wagner; brothers, Freddie Hurd, Kemp Hurd and Charles Hurd and wife, Ona; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, B.J. Ingram, R.C. and wife, Roxie Wagner, Johnny and wife, Beatrice Wagner, Roxie Davis, Ann Wagner, Ruby and husband, Gilbert Davidson; several special nieces, nephews and cousins she loved dearly.
