Edward Eugene Brooks (Gene)

Edward Eugene Brooks (Gene), 87, of Kingsport, died Saturday, March 19 at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport. A native of Ewing, VA, Gene is an army veteran. He served as County Court Clerk of Wise County. Gene was the town manager in Appalachia for 20+ years, and the executive director of Waste Management Authority of Norton, Coeburn & Wise, VA. He was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Along with being a devoted husband, loving father, and indulging papaw, Gene had a true passion for golf and he loved to travel with his wife.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Brooks; a son, Jeff Brooks; mother and father, Neila and Schultz Brooks; brother, Joe Brooks; and step-son Jimmy Thomas.

Gene is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jewell Brooks; one daughter, Theresa Brooks; sister, Louise Janeway; step-daughter, Linda Danko; step-son, Mike Thomas; three grandsons; two granddaughters; eight great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow with Rev. Joe Green and Rev. Jack Weikel.

Graveside services will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
