Edward Byron Skeen, 76, of Kingsport, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Russell County, VA, and lived most of his life in Kingsport. He served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. He was a retired sheet and metal worker with Local Union #5. He was a member of Walkers Fork Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and he was a member of the VFW. He was an avid fisherman and loved working in his woodshop doing his woodwork. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was loved by all who met him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth Skeen; six brothers, and two sisters.
Surviving include his wife of 57 years, Margaret Persinger Skeen of the home; three sons, Johnny Persinger of Church Hill, Gary Skeen and fianc Connie Johnson of Kingsport, Tim Skeen and wife Tammy of Kingsport; four daughters, Linda Maddox and husband Paul of Kingsport, Diane Mantooth and husband Carl of Morristown, Connie Shupe and husband Randall of Kingsport, Helen Webb and husband Jeffrey of Mt. Carmel; special family friend, Susan Lance of Johnson City; nine grandchildren, Bobby Lawless, Amber Whiten, Jonathan Persinger, Matthew Skeen, Amanda Rupe, Lillie Maddox, Kim Shupe, Scott Shupe, and Zane Pendergrass; several step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Agnes Dishner of Church Hill, Nannie Bell Wright of Church Hill, and Mary Ruth Yaunts of Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, and any time at the residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, with Rev. John Crawford and Rev. Paul Persinger officiating, scripture readings by Gene Mullins, and music provided by the Sounds of Victory Quartet.
Military graveside services will follow the funeral at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport and will be conducted by the Tennessee Army National Guard and VFW. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeffrey Webb, Paul Maddox, Bobby Lawless, Scott Shupe, Randall Shupe, Matthew Skeen, Tim Skeen, and Gary Skeen. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Clark, Jeff McLain, John McLain, Keith Thomas, Charlie Ball, Kaleb Whiten, Camdon Whiten, and Jonathan Paul Persinger.
