Edwin Lewis Cornett, 83, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol.
He was born in Kingsport and lived his entire life in this area. Ed served in the U. S. Navy aboard the L.S.T. 1029 during World War II. He retired from the Mead Corporation after 42 years service.
Ed was a member of Heritage First Church of God, having served as Adult Sunday School teacher, Board of Trustees, and the Ushering staff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ada Cornett; and four sisters, Zoe Walker, Frankie Cheatham, Georgia Speers, and Mildred Laughlin.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ann Cornett; two sons, Randy Cornett of Atlanta, GA, Bob Cornett and wife Linda of Kingsport; one granddaughter, Carrie Carpenter and husband Todd of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Heritage First Church of God, 470 Rock Springs Road. Services will follow with Pastor Steve Tilley officiating. Music will be provided by Carrie Carpenter, Jacob Tilley, Dan Bullion, and Mark Staten.
Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park.
