Edwin White

Edwin White, 80, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Salem, Missouri, he had resided in Kingsport since 1998.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Martha White of Kingsport, Tennessee; 2 daughters, Connie Colgrove and husband, Dale of Kingsport, Tennessee; and Marsha Brooks and husband, Jim of Kingsport, Tennessee; 2 sons, David White and wife, Karen of Urbandale, Iowa, and Timothy White of Kingsport, Tennessee; 8 grandchildren, Daniel Brooks of Urbandale, Iowa, Olivia Colgrove of Arlington, Virginia, Jonathan Brooks of Kingsport, Tennessee, Seth White of Urbandale, Iowa, Nicole Colgrove of Lexington, Kentucky, Zachary White of Urbandale, Iowa, Michael Brooks of Urbandale, Iowa, and Julia Colgrove of Long Island, New York; sister, Wanda Eli and husband, David of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon White.

Edwin loved reading God's Word and sharing his thoughts with family and friends. Throughout his life, he was blessed to preach in churches around the country and as far away as Nairobi, Kenya. His hope in the resurrection inspired and sustained him in his walk with the Lord.

Edwin's love for God was expressed in his willingness to follow wherever God led him, including 19 years in Des Moines, Iowa under Rev. Lloyd Goodwin's ministry. His countless hours working on the church property testified of his dedication.

Edwin was dependable, hard-working and a strength to those needing encouragement. He had a way of coming into a room and leaving with new friends. He was a faithful, loving husband to Martha, his wife of almost 59 years. His eyes lit up every time she walked into a room.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 23rd from 5 pm to 7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, 117 E Charlemont Ave, Kingsport, Tennessee.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 2:00 pm at Iles Funeral Home Grandview Park, 3211 Hubbell Ave, Des Moines, Iowa with Rev. John P. Marlow and Rev. Alois Rutivi officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa with Rev. Glenn Goodwin officiating.
