Ernest G. "E.G." Jones, 82, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday December 17, 2017, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Sullivan County on June 26, 1935, a son of the late Jack and Burnace Baines Jones, he has resided in this area his entire life.
E.G. graduated from Sullivan High School in 1953 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He married Faye Wright, September 20, 1953, in Kingsport.
E.G. was a member of Community United Methodist Church since 1995.
He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1996 following 43 years as a Lab Analyst and after retirement he was employed by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes for 10 years.
E.G. was a TSSAA umpire in football and baseball who loved camping and the beach. He was a big piddler, who could not be still, and he always had a tale to tell.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Pete, Paul, Jackie Lee, Jimmy; and one sister, Cathy.
E.G. is survived by his wife of 64 years, Faye Wright Jones, of the home; sons, Randy Jones and wife Michelle of Maryville, and Gil Jones and wife Gina of Gray; four grandchildren, Fallon Jones of Gray, Keisha Shepherd and husband Adam of Kodak, TN, Ernest Ethan Jones and wife Brandi of White Pine, TN, and Steven Riddle of Maryville; four great grandchildren, Gracie, Elijah, Brady, and Blake; siblings, Ruby Templeton of Kingsport, Gary Jones of Kingsport, Carolyn Ramey of Kingsport, Andy Jones and wife Evelyn of Rogersville, TN, Tommy Jones of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles F. Kilbourne officiating.
Entombment will follow at East Tennessee Cemetery Mausoleum with a Flag Presentation by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions may be made to Community United Methodist Church, 510 Gibson Mill Rd, Kingsport, TN 37660.
Arrangements will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.
