Proverbs 31:30 says "Favor is deceitful and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord she shall be praised."
Eileen Barker Byrd entered this life on Saturday, March 17, 1926 in Maces Springs, Virginia, the daughter of the late Henry Addington Barker and Zelma Pearl Leonard Barker of Maces Springs, departing this life on Thursday, September 26, 2013, following a lengthy illness.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, were her stepmother, Evie Barker, grandson, Donald (Donnie) Raymond Taylor, Jr.; sister-in-law, Carolyn Fay Porter; brothers-in-law, Donald Byrd and Allie R. Byrd, Jr.; and niece, Tana Marketa Jones.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Joe W. Byrd (she shared 62 of these years with her Pastor/Husband with the good members of Bloomingdale Baptist Church and surrounding communities). She was a devoted Mother to her four children and was a loving "Granny" to all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters, Phyllis Jones and husband Truman, and Iris Tope and husband Steve; two daughters, Carolyn Yvonne Douthat and husband Eugene, Kingsport and Phyllis Teresa Hoskins and husband Steve, Kingsport; two sons, Ronald Lynn Byrd and wife Donna, Kingsport, and Joseph Stephen Byrd, Kingsport; four brothers, Floyd Barker and wife Kay, Wayne Barker and wife Christine, Johnny Barker and wife Dot, and Gary Barker and wife Kathy; six grandchildren, Katy Craig, J. Stephen Byrd, Jr., Angela Clark, Jennie Haney, Joey Taylor, and Andy Hoskins; ten great-grandchildren, Kristen Byrd, Tyler Byrd, Mathew Craig, Sam Clark, Molly Clark, Caroline Haney, Sarah Haney, Alisha Taylor, Leah Taylor, Nakiche Taylor; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kaden Taylor Douthat. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Bloomingdale Baptist Church on Saturday, September 28th from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 29th at 1 p.m. with Pastor Emeritus Joe W. Byrd and Pastor Phil Whittemore officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. The Deacons of Bloomingdale Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
