Elizabeth Campbell Callahan Bennett, 88, of Kingsport, TN, died early Tuesday morning December 15, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born October 30, 1921 in Roanoke, VA, to the late Warren Prentiss and Lucy Thacker Campbell.

She received her education in the Roanoke schools, attending Jefferson High School. She attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and earned a B.S. degree from Roanoke College in Salem, VA. Mrs. Bennett studied organ at Hollins College, Roanoke VA and King College, Bristol.

She moved to Kingsport in 1946 with her husband, Andrew J. Bennett.

She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, where she was also a Sunday school teacher. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts for several years, and was a member of the Kingsport Junior Service League as well as several social clubs.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. Keith S. Callahan, and her second husband, Andrew Johnston Bennett, Jr.; her parents, Warren Prentiss and Lucy Thacker Campbell; her brother, Warren Prentiss Campbell, Jr. all of Roanoke; and her beloved cats, Sushi, John Boy, Janie, and Bobby.

She is survived by a daughter, Lucy Elizabeth Bennett of Kingsport; and four sons, Richard Johnston Bennett and wife Ruth of Eagleville, TN, David Campbell Bennett of Kingsport; Stephen Armistead Bennett and wife Karen of Houston, TX, Robert Prentiss Bennett and wife Lisa of Greeneville, TN; and a grandson, Sgt. Richard Gregg Bennett and wife Lyndsey of Fort Irwin, CA. She is also survived by a special friend of the family, Zack Ewenetu of Charlotte, NC.

Graveside services will be held in Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, VA at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 21 with Rev. Tupper Garden officiating. Rev. Garden is the minister of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, the church Elizabeth grew up in.
