Elizabeth "Libby" Wright Bussart, died Thursday, August 14, 2008.
She was born July 2, 1916, in Cross Plains, Tennessee, to General Frank and Pearl Culbreath Wright. At an early age she moved with her parents to Nashville, Tennessee, and was a graduate of Hume-Fogg High School, where one of her classmates was Dinah Shore.
She married Walter P. Bussart in 1957 and moved to St. Louis, Missouri, relocating to Kingsport in 1958. Almost immediately she became active in church, PTA, Girl Scouts, hospital functions, and other community organizations. Over the years her activities included Finance Chairman of the Appalachian Girl Scout Council, Assistant Troop Leader, president of the Washington School PTA, and several offices of Holston Valley Hospital Auxiliary including President. She served several terms on the Board of Directors of Holston Valley Community Hospital and several committees of the Board including Public Relationsa"and was the first woman elected to the Executive Committee. Later when the HVMC Foundation was formed she served as a founding member of the Endowment Development Committee and was a member of the Planned Giving Group. Mrs. Bussart served on the Women's Council of the First Presbyterian Church, the Mental Health Board, and the Board of Fine Arts. She was also a member of the Laurel Garden Club, the Forty Club, and the first woman elected to the Board of Directors of the Ridgefields County Club and its Executive Committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her only sister; four brothers; and a grandson, Scott Shearer.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Walter P. Bussart; sons, Dr. Robert J. Shearer Barbara of Etowah, TN, and James C. Bussart Deborah of Marietta, GA; a daughter, Sarah Bussart Rumsey Michael of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Kathy Shearer of Etowah, Ben Rumsey of Murfreesboro, Tim Bussart of Marietta, and Suzanne Bussart Alecia Larry of New York City; a special cousin, Elizabeth Calliham Robert of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport with The Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Green Hills Cemetery in Etowah, TN.
