Elizabeth Vavalides Drakos, 83, 1441 Valley Street, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, and a retiree of Eastman Chemical Company after 23 years of service 1958-1981. Mrs. Drakos was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bluff City. She was an avid golfer and square dancer and a beautiful singer and pianist, but her greatest love in life was her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Philip and Chrysanthy Vavalides; a sister, Anastasia Soulie Breeze; a brother, Spears Vavalides; and a grandson.
Surviving are her husband, Nickolas Drakos of Kingsport; one daughter, Nancy Atkinson and husband Tom of Mesa, Arizona; one son, Anthony Drakos of Kingsport; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Vavalides of Knoxville; a brother-in-law, Milton Breeze of Mississippi; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous devoted nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
A Trasigion service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Saturday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bluff City with Father Kevin T. Millsaps officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
