Elizabeth Jane Benson Holtzclaw

Elizabeth Jane Benson Holtzclaw (Betsy), died November 22, 2018. Born on March 13, 1926 in Wilmington, NC, she was the daughter of James Robert and Polly Russ Benson. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School and received a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Upon graduating in 1948 she was employed by Tennessee Eastman Co. in Kingsport and after her children were grown at Northwestern Mutual Life.

She was a member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, and on several Presbytery committees. For a number of years she served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, the Women's Auxilliary of Holston Valley Medical Center, and as a leader of a Girl Scout Troop. She loved traveling with her husband Bob, but time with her family was the most important activity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son and her husband, Robert W. Holtzclaw.

Surviving are her children and their spouses; James Robert and Priscilla Holtzclaw of Charleston, SC, Michael Wesley and Deborah Holtzclaw of Kingsport, Mary Jane and Robert Alley of Kingsport; a sister, Mary Benson Cameron of Jacksonville, NC; a brother, James Robert Benson, Jr. of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Bobby and wife Tia Holtzclaw, Molly and husband Kevin Griggs, Arthur and wife Deb Holtzclaw, Jesse and wife Rebecca Alley, Michael Alley, Billy Alley, Wesley Holtzclaw and Marielle Holtzclaw; great grandchildren, Charlotte, Katie and John Griggs, Zoe and Kosti Holtzclaw, Kate and Eli Alley.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 on November 26, 2018 at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. The Rev. Collin Adams will officiate.

Her family is grateful for the care she received at Preston Place and from her sitters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church, 1415 Waverly Rd., Kingsport, TN 37664.
