Elizabeth Pecktol Medlin, 100 + 9 ½ months, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center with her children by her side.
She enjoyed cooking, the company of family and friends, and also sharing with others. Until her death, she was the oldest living member of Vermont United Methodist Church.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, E.R. (Jimmie) Medlin and son-in-law, Donald E. Bates. Others preceding her in death were mother, Eva Fleenor Pecktol and father, Flem H. Pecktol, sisters, Manie Miller, Irene Childress, Frances Hickam and brother, Henry Pectol.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lou Bates; son, J. Wayne Medlin and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Gary Medlin and Danny Medlin; great-great-grandchildren, Meghan, Matt, Cody and Jessie Medlin; step-grandson, Dale McLean; step-great-granddaughter, Ella; one step-great-grandson, Evan, all of Kingsport; and three sisters, Margaret Bedford of Kingsport, Rachel Dykes of Nashville, TN, and Ruth Shankles of Kingsport; and brother, Flem Pecktol, of Kingsport, TN.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11-1:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Homer Roller and Rev. Jared Woods officiating.
Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be David Shankles, Steve Pecktol, Chuck Pecktol, Dick Pectol, Phil Ramey, Phil Newland, and Tommy Wolfe.
