Elizabeth Jean Roberts

Mrs. Elizabeth Jean Roberts went home to be with the Lord on Christmas evening just in time to celebrate Jesus's Birthday. She was born on April 3, 1929 in Sullivan County, Tennessee to Enoch and Bessie Light. Jean was a devoted Wife, Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother who loved being with family, knitting, reading, and watching the Carolina Panthers play every Sunday. She was devoted to her two cats, Tiger and Baby.

After residing 25 years in Kingsport with her late husband, Fred Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts moved to Conway, SC for the next 21 of their 45 years of marriage. Upon Mr. Roberts' death in 1991, she moved to Charlotte, NC where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Mark Gebhardt, for the remainder of her life.

She is survived by her son Mike Cookie Roberts of McDonough, Georgia, son Johnny Linda Roberts of Greer, South Carolina, and daughter Theresa Mark Gebhardt of Charlotte, North Carolina. An infant son, Fred Earl Roberts, Jr., preceded her in death. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Albert Roberts, Amanda Mike Cabe, Andy Roberts, Melanie Roberts, Jared Dawn Roberts, Joseph Jen Roberts, Seth Megan Roberts, Daniel Stephanie Roberts, Casey Gebhardt, Annie Gebhardt, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Jean was a gentle soul who was loved by everyone with whom she came into contact. Her battle with lung disease for many years was a testament to the courage and strength that she displayed not only during her illness but also during her entire life.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, 117 E. Charlemont Avenue, Kingsport, TN, 37660, from 12:30-2:00 pm, immediately followed with the graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Fred Roberts, at Oak Hill Memorial Park. After the services, a reception will be held at the home of Butch and Ginger Jones, 312 Wonderland Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660.
