Elizabeth Chaffin Thompson, 72, Appalachian Christian Village, Johnson City, died early Sunday morning, April 13, 2008. Mrs. Thompson was born in Putnam County, TN, and resided in Kingsport for the past 50 years until October, 2007, when she moved to Johnson City. Elizabeth was a graduate of Tennessee Tech, class of '58. She was a member of the Northeast Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Okla Chaffin, three brothers, and one sister.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Thompson, of Johnson City; two daughters, Mrs. Jan Mattix and husband Robert, Nashville, TN, and Mrs. Kim Horne and husband Bryan, Kingsport; one son, Byron Thompson, Sarasota, FL; a sister, Mildred Ferrell, Ft. Valley, GA; four brothers, Marion Chaffin, Cookeville, TN, Thurrell Chaffin, Gainesville, TN, Arlon Chaffin, Cookeville, TN, and Lewis Chaffin, Cookeville, TN; and three grandchildren, Chris Thompson, and Logan and Kelly Horne.
A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Northeast Church of Christ, 2217 Beechnut Drive, Kingsport, with Minister Craig Cottongin officiating. A family burial service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
