Ellen W. Russell

Ellen W. Russell, 87, Kingsport, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

She was of the Lutheran faith. Born in 1926, Ellen was raised in Stanley County, Richfield, NC. She graduated from Richfield High School in 1943 and attended Phieffer College in 1944. She studied and played the piano for her church and other churches in the area for various occasions. Ellen was a wonderful wife and homemaker for 65 years to the late Carroll E. Russell. They began their life together in 1946 in Raleigh, NC. Life moved them to Kingsport for Tennessee Eastman, then on to Valhalla, NY, with Eastman Kodak for about ten years before coming back to Kingsport. In the years following retirement, she was able to travel with her husband to the Atlantic and Gulf coasts frequently, enjoying their golden years.

Together they had four children, the late John Russell, Mark Russell of Beaufort, NC, Martha (Russell) Farmer (Dan) Kingsport, TN, Robert Russell, Boone, NC, seven grandchildren, Lindsey (Russell) Ross, Brittany (Russell) Bouton, Jessica Russell, Preston Russell, Alan Russell, Sara Russell, and Anna (Farmer) Buck; and four great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Wellington of Colonial Heights for their compassionate care.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 3014, at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. J. W. Depew officiating.

The graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014, at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
