Ellen Welsh, 98, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011. She had lived in East Tennessee her entire life, residing in the Indian Springs Community until 1947, when she moved to the Princeton Road area. Ellen was a member of the Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. She served as an assistant church organist at Cassidy United Methodist Church and a communion steward for several years at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. She was a precious wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother of 98 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Welsh; son, David Welsh; grandson, Richard Herron; parents, Joseph B. and Susan Cole Droke; sister, Winnona Rogers; brothers, Ralph and Ray Droke; son-in-law, Bob Depew.
Ellen is survived by two daughters, Shirley Depew of Kingsport and Marie Herron and husband, Tom of Church Hill; sister, Frances Rogers of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Diane Melton, Roger Depew, Wayne Herron, Mira Wise and Angela Cradic; twelve great-grandchildren, Trevor Sproles, Justin Sproles, Amanda Depew, Kasi Szabo, Brieanna Depew, Mia Kaywood, Zachary Melton, Quinn Melton, Ryan Jones, Lillianna Cradic, Hannah Wise and Aaron Wise; two great-great-grandchildren, Astyn Depew and Aubry Szabo; special friends, Peggy Yokely and Eddie Campbell.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Services with follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Dale M. Gilbert officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Roller Cemetery in Kingsport.
Pallbearers will be Harold Horton, Eddie Campbell, Justin Sproles, Zachary Melton, Trevor Sproles, J. W. Rogers and Harrison Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Droke and Wayne Herron.
