Elmer Cleek, Church Hill, passed away on his 91st birthday, Friday, August 7, 2009, at Holston Manor.
Elmer was a retired minister of the United Methodist Church, having served numerous churches. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Church Hill as long as his health allowed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Loyd Cleek; daughter, Ann Duggan; son, Larry Cleek; parents, Mack and Bertha Calhoun Cleek; four sisters, Vilus Thomas, Etta May Ferguson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Gladys Cleek; and three brothers, Joe Cleek, Sam Cleek, and Sylvanus Cleek.
Surviving are three granddaughters, Jamie Gravitte, Jennifer Davis, and Ashley Cleek; two grandsons, Lloyd Bricken and Christopher Cleek; great-granddaughter, Sara Davis; great-grandson, James Gravitte; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Sam Johnson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Ira Coleman, Doug Lloyd, Lee Cleek, Sherman Cleek, Jim Wallin, and Jim Snavely.
