Elmer Earl Cody

Elmer Earl Cody, Sr., 88, born July 9, 1921, in Hawkins County, TN, went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2010, at home with his immediate family by his side.

Mr. Cody was a member of First Baptist Church of Fall Branch for more than 60 years, having served as Trustee, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Building Committee, and Chairman of the Maintenance Committee. He enjoyed working for the Lord!

He retired in 1982 from Power and Services Division of Eastman Kodak Company after more than 40 years of service. Elmer also built homes in this area and had his own woodworking shop.

Preceding him in death were his first wife and mother of his children, Lydia Alice Page Cody; his parents, Jay Hugh Cody and Noonie Tignor Cody; one son, Kyle Cody; sisters, Maude Bailey, Julie Carpenter, Margie Cody, Mossie Cody, and Dixie Cody; two brothers, Jay Hugh Cody, Jr. and L. D. Cody; and son-in-law, Dean Long.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Lucille Brown Cody, of the home; one daughter, Margie Evangeline Long, Greensboro, NC; two sons, Elmer Earl Cody, Jr., Tampa, FL, and Robert "Bobby" Joseph Cody and wife, Linda, Pulaski, VA; daughter-in-law, Sharon Cody, Kingsport; six grandchildren, Robert Cody, Jr., and wife, Debbie, Richard Long and wife, Mary Ann, Tim Long and wife, Sandy, Lonnie Cody, Ann Aker and husband, Jeff, and Sonya Thomas and husband, Stephen; nine great-grandchildren, Sarah Long, Nicholas Long, Cody Long, Jordan Long, Pierce Long, Emily Cody, Rebecca Cody, Stephanie Thomas, and Nicole Thomas; two sisters, Noonie Ledford, Marietta, SC and Nettie McCarson, Cleveland, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch, on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the home anytime. Services will be conducted on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Fall Branch, with Rev. Victor Wallace and Rev. Carl Strickler officiating, and music provided by Alice Bales.

Interment will follow at Fall Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Cody's nephews, and flower girls will be his nieces. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's #1 and #2 Sunday School Class.

The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Brandon, Nurse Amy, and Amedisys Hospice nurse, Becky Lee, and other staff members, church family, friends and neighbors for the care and help during Elmer's illness.
